Wherein the Boppy is outwitted
A Boppy is a wonderful thing to have. It is so nice for giving your arms a break when you're nursing a newborn. It can also be nice when Rosebuds are learning how to sit up--just a little support at the base of their back where they need it.
However... when your name is Greta and you have a favorite toy basket that you love to play with and is right within reach, you want it.
Greta pulled at her basket, and it came over to her but wouldn't go the last few inches. She pulled and tugged, and then she looked down and earnestly scratched at the Boppy (apparently realizing that that was why her basket wasn't coming to her). That did not improve matters. So she reached over, grabbed hold of the basket with two hands and heaved it up and over the side of the Boppy and onto her lap (quite a feat for a little girl). It was just what she wanted. Now she had it in her lap and could actually get to the inside of it. It was so funny to see her do it. The expression on her face of concentration and exertion when she picked the basket up was hilarious. (I was so glad that I already had the camera out to take pictures!) It was a lot of work though. Soon the basket fell back out and she decided to just lean back and find her thumb. Oh well!

Trying out the table
Our coffee table is finished and looks so very beautiful in the living room. Greta was the first of us to try it out the other evening.

She was practicing her sitting up, and could manage by herself for a few seconds. She would get distracted by her toes and start to slowly lean forward.
This is Greta inspecting the bevel on the edge of the table. ~'::

Chair
Greta got a treasure of a high chair last week—a lovely retro one with the precious little doggie decal still in good condition. It’s a lovely honey color and is very sturdy. I had to spend a few hours cleaning it up, scraping and scrubbing, but after that and a good rub down with some olive oil it gleams. It must not have been used an awful lot, considering how many years it’s been around, since it’s not very worn. I am so pleased to have this chair for my girlie. It’s about time for Greta to start having her soft-boiled egg yolk and sea salt! I am not in a hurry; as with any stage of motherhood, along with the delight in her growth and development will come a wee bit o’ mourning for those “only noonies” days. That’s how it is, says Pooh, says he.

Big Girl Words
(This is an experimental movie...my computer says it is 70 MB in size, so if it's impossible to load please tell me!)
A Beautiful Thing
My man finished building a lovely coffee table for our living room this evening. He made it out of some black walnut boards that we got from a [sort of] nearby lumber yard. He's spent several evenings and weekends working on it in his parents' garage across town; sometimes Greta and I would go visit and watch him. Planing, gluing, planing, cutting, sanding, cutting the tenons and mortises. The table is so beautiful! I look forward to moving it into our home when the finish is completely dry (which should be in the next couple of days). It was amazing to see it take shape and go from a drawing on a piece of paper to an heirloom piece of furniture. I will treasure it! Do you see the interesting curved designs of the end pieces, shelf edges and supports? Caleb designed and drew up the entire thing himself (with me looking over his shoulder ;)).

::'~ From my day:
~':: A bouquet of variegated oregano & thyme around a single purple coneflower
:: A little girl in her yellow knit dress whose new favorite toy is Mama's wire whisk
~':: Live-streamed classical radio
:: Reading a story before nap-time
~':: Finding some great girl tights at Hanna Andersson in all sorts of lovely colors--Greta will need some this winter
:: Lovely new chenille bathrobe, fresh-washed & fluffed in the dryer
~':: Catching up with laundry
:: Washing up a stack of dishes
::'~ Needing to find a good, central place for Greta's toys :)
