basket for liners

A lovely brown calico lining for the basket I plan to store newborn diaper liners in. The brown material is leftover from one of my new dresses that I am sewing.

::'~ (Sat.) a slight change of plans: I think this basket will work much better for the diaper cloths. The liners are so thin that they will work just fine in a drawer.

Come, Holy Spirit

Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove,
With all thy quickening powers;
Kindle a flame of sacred love
In these cold hearts of ours.

O raise our thoughts from things below,
From vanities and toys,
Then shall we with fresh courage go
To reach eternal joys.

Awake our souls to joyful songs;
Let pure devotion rise,
Till praise employs our thankful tongues,
And doubt forever dies.

Come, Holy Spirit, heavenly Dove,
With all thy quickening powers;
Come, shed abroad a Savior's love,
And that shall kindle ours.

This afternoon I am listening to A Peaceful Retirement by Miss Read. Delightful. The sun has shone more today than it did yesterday, which has been so lovely. I have a nice big sun-patch coming in the south window. I am finishing up a little project of going through a pile of soft terry cloths to be used for diaper wipes, reinforcing the edges with a triple zig-zag stitch and trimming any escaping threads. Just two more to go!

My clothes-drying rack is a pleasing sight just now with my favorite ticking-striped pillow case and a new pooh infant car seat cover hanging from it. Makes me very happy indeed.

I suppose that it is getting close to the time when I should begin thinking what exactly I want to bring with me to the hospital when it's time for Baby to arrive. To that end, my sister is very sweetly letting me borrow her gorgeous blue vintage suitcase to pack with, which just so happens to match my lovely cosmetic bag. What fun! I feel like Donna Reed or something.

Softies

Little baby softies all fresh and clean from the washing machine--smelling like fresh air from Charlie’s Soap. I had a few moments of fun matching together little outfits! Then into their clean little organizer bin they went to await the day that they are needed.

Baby reminds me that he (or she) is coming with his attempts at moving around the now somewhat crowded space that is home for a few more weeks. It is a joy to feel the movement clearly now that Baby is so much bigger. It makes my tummy into funny shapes.

Ah ha!

I googled the word meme because I wanted to know just exactly what it meant. I have the general idea from reading enough blogs, of course, but I wanted a definition. And this is what I got from Wikipedia. It took me a second to follow of course, my brain being on auto pilot, but it was interesting to find what the word does mean. At first I had to laugh at the way that it was explained. Sounds so very important, doesn't it? Then it made me think about how we use words all of the time without having a clue what they mean.
I love knowing what words mean. Of course, the problem with the knowledge of what a word means is the fact that we have to reconstruct our sentences to more accurately reflect what we intent to say, instead of speaking in the haphazard sort of fashion that comes easiest in our day.
This word, meme, is obviously an evolutionistic term. I do see why it is used the way it is in reference to functions of the blogging world. Hhmm. Anyway...
So, in case anyone wanted to know the origin of the term for this thing that bloggers do all the time:

A meme (pronounced /miːm/), as defined by memetic theory, constitutes a theoretical unit of cultural information, the building block of culture or cultural evolution which spreads through diffusion propagating from one mind to another analogously to the way in which a gene propagates from one organism to another as a unit of genetic information and of biological evolution. Multiple memes may propagate as cooperative groups called memeplexes (meme complexes).
Biologist and evolutionary theorist Richard Dawkins coined the term meme in 1976. He gave as examples tunes, catch-phrases, beliefs, clothing fashions, ways of making pots, and the technology of building arches.
Meme-theorists contend that memes evolve by natural selection (similarly to Darwinian biological evolution) through the processes of variation, mutation, competition, and inheritance influencing an individual entity's reproductive success. So with memes, some ideas will propagate less successfully and become extinct, while others will survive, spread, and, for better or for worse, mutate. "Memeticists argue that the memes most beneficial to their hosts will not necessarily survive; rather, those memes that replicate the most effectively spread best, which allows for the possibility that successful memes may prove detrimental to their hosts."

A short story written in 1876 by Mark Twain, A Literary Nightmare, describes his encounter with a jingle so "catchy" that it plays over and over in his mind until he finally sings it out loud and infects others (also known as an earworm).

Interesting.

meme

I have been tagged by my sister Ana at Ana’s Corner.
The rules for this meme are: (1) Link to the person that tagged you. (2) Post the rules on your blog. (3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. (4) Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs. (5) Let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

Well, I will have to break the last couple of rules because anyone that I would have tagged has already been tagged by Ana. But in case any of you would still like the list of non-important facts about me, here goes…

1. My best friends are my Jesus, my man, and my mama.

2. I love vintage aprons. I have something of a collection of them. They must be useful though: I want to enjoy the fabrics and styles by wearing them while I go about my homemaking!

3. I want to learn how to make a beautiful weld like my man can. Ok…so I’ll never be able to do it that well. I would be happy to do it a fraction as well!

4. I like my coffee to be a medium sort of roast, brewed moderately strong (it’s got to have body, but no tar, please!), with half & half; no sugar.

5. I love working on cars with my man. Summer evenings and the deep rumble of a good engine…aaahhh!

6. I love taking rambling walks out at the farm: In the winter along the edges of the fields, wading through snowdrifts and admiring the twisty silhouettes of the bare trees and honeysuckle bushes on the fence lines; in the spring at the edge of the ditches, with the new growth of green grass all around, little plants poking their heads out of the ground (the promise of wildflowers!) and an exciting freshness about the cool, damp air.

So, how is that for being random?
