My little "Crown of Thorns" sprouts poked through the moss yesterday morning.
(They'll grow to be a vine with decorative bi-color or striped gourds.)

  1. Katya,

This is really beautiful! You are growing them in egg-shells, how did you do that?

  2. I followed a link at "Holy Experience" to a webpage with the idea (http://www.marthastewart.com/good-things/eggshell-flowerpots?backto=true). Basically, I just tapped around the top of the egg with the side of a spoon where I wanted the top to come off. It broke off there pretty neatly, but these were fresh eggs which might make a difference. The insides got poured into a bowl to be made into an omelet at supper time, and I rinsed the shells out. I spooned some dirt in, planted my gourd seeds, patted a piece of moss on top and watered it. :) It's a cheery sort of nest to have in my window!

  6. The instructions at the M.S. website say to remove the shells...I really don't know if you have to or not. :)
