I followed a link at "Holy Experience" to a webpage with the idea (http://www.marthastewart.com/good-things/eggshell-flowerpots?backto=true). Basically, I just tapped around the top of the egg with the side of a spoon where I wanted the top to come off. It broke off there pretty neatly, but these were fresh eggs which might make a difference. The insides got poured into a bowl to be made into an omelet at supper time, and I rinsed the shells out. I spooned some dirt in, planted my gourd seeds, patted a piece of moss on top and watered it. :) It's a cheery sort of nest to have in my window!
